Demand online for contractors declining

16 February 2012

Contractors are in less demand from online recruiters in January compared to figures from the month prior, according to the Monster Employment Index.

Evidence shows that online demand for contractors fell by 8.5 per cent in the UK and 6.6 per cent across Europe.

However, this is in-line with industries that have recently been performing very well, such as IT and engineering, that now face a lower demand in January.

“As the challenging economic conditions continue, the Index confirms the trend of recent months with fewer online recruitment opportunities in January as employers maintain a cautious approach to hiring,” says Alan Townsend, vice president of sales readiness and business operations for Monster Europe.

The Monster Employment Index is a monthly report of online job demand by surveying a vast array of job opportunities across Europe.

Evidence from Jobsite suggests, however, that firms and turning more and more to online recruitment to cut costs in their HR departments.
