Contractor service providers ordered to be quiet in bird habitat
20 December 2011
Contractor service providers in the building industry may be under more pressure to stay quiet in certain areas after a report was issued by Natural England in Essex.
A group of ruddy turnstone birds - related to sandpipers - have recently arrived on Southend Pier from North America, which is right where a £3 million project constructing a cultural centre is due to start next month, the Daily Mail reports.
Natural England carried out an assessment and has now warned CIS card holders and other construction workers they must not listen to music, shout or drop tools from height as they go about their jobs to avoid disturbing the birds.
"No employees, sub-contractors or persons employed on the site must cause unnecessary noise," it commented.
This could have implications when new building initiatives take place in other parts of the country that happen to be wildlife habitats.
Earlier this month, Hilton announced it is to have 20 more hotels around the UK as part of a programme of expansion in Europe.
